Here it goes: I don’t like the New Year's Eve Craze.

I came to accept and tolerate it, but I don’t have to participate in it.

Can you feel it?

That smells like freedom.

I get why people freak out about New Year’s Eve— massive blowouts, countdowns overflowing with champagne and glam all the way. I understand that human minds need bullet points, so life does not feel like a continuous stream from cradle to the grave.

However, New Year’s Eve is a victim of its own success. You wait for the climax- but never get it.

I no longer subscribe to the narrative surrounding the glitz and glam of one night only — going out only to avoid staying in.

After all, the most popular way to celebrate the end of the year is to get drunk in the fanciest venue, spend lots of cash on the dress you feel disgusted by in the morning.

I have reached the conclusion that throughout past years I have made myself fit into fancy dresses, sparkling makeup, false eyelashes, bubbling drinks, staying out late just because everyone else expected me to.

I failed to listen to my expectations and fancies.
